Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Project IntroductionThis is a featured page

This project is about a series of 'dry canals' or routes, that are walking, electric buggy and cycling focused. The Dry Canals aim to invigorate and join together the places through which they pass. They aim to provide interesting cultural surroundings and make it easy and fun for people to travel the city without a car.
This Wiki site is the first steps in making this project 'Open Source'.The open source model of operation and decision making allows concurrent input of different agendas, approaches and priorities, and differs from the more closed, centralized models of development.
This project is therefore not just an innovative solution to transit, but also innovative in the way that opens up the design process to the entire city. Anyone can contribute (and we hope they will). This project is thus the first in a long run of planned Open Source City projects. The project has been instigated by Deer Park Alpha through its Open Source City Foundation. Deer Park Alpha will act as a part-time bus driver: Either tell us where you want to go or have a go at driving yourself!
By opening out the project to all we hope for at least a couple of things:
  • Mass Collaboration - these projects are big, we need feet, hands, bums-on-seats to make them happen.
  • Shared Ownership - anyone can contribute, ownership is anyone's who wants its. It is not reliant on public sector or large private sector input. We are not challenging anyone's position. We do not want to hear 'oh, we are doing that'. We want action, not blame, recriminations, party politics or job protection-ism.
It is important to remember that this project is more than just a series of cycle routes. It presents an opportunity to connect isolated neighbourhoods together and to key parts of the city. It provides opportunities for existing and new businesses to develop and take advantage of increased activity along the Dry Canals. They highlight the importance of important and often forgotten urban areas. But above all it aims to bring fun, enjoyment and creativity into the city for all.
